I ftp'd down the latest x86 gentoo install iso (695MB) yesterday over
the WDS link and then sftp'd it back up to one of my external servers
without issue (cheers to comcast 768Kb upstream).

One thing to note, when configuring the WDS link as a transparent bridge
like I have you never end up using the WAN port of the router.  You
connect your PC's to the LAN ports of the remote WRT54G, the connection
is bonded across the WLAN ports via WDS to the next WRT and then you
hook one of the LAN ports on that WRT to your upstream router.  I
actually put tape across the WAN port to ensure no one tries to use it.
 The issues that others have experienced may be related to the
traditional LAN <-> WAN port throughput.
