I think it's all a matter of personal preference.  My preference happens 
to be making the script entirely self-contained, so I drop that kind of 
stuff in there rather than the cron configuration.  This allows me to 
have more control over what the script does, and honestly it's good 
when I'm looking at a script I wrote two years ago and wondering what 
the heck I was doing. :)
