Ah, that's easy.  If they're a shrink wrapped package of 50+ cheap discs,
they aren't Taiyo Yuden.  ;-)  As I said, I ended up paying about 2x more
for them than the other discs I had picked up.  Prices have come down quite
a bit since then, then it was around $0.45 each, with the other discs being
just over $0.20.  Now we're paying $0.28 each for CD-Rs.  This is in large
quantity though.  I'm not really sure how that compares with other CDs
these days.
The only way I know of that you can tell is to pop one of the CDs into your
drive and start up cdrecord on it -- it'll tell you what the manufacturer
is.
