According to the table at the bottom, the new version 5 does run VxWorks
as they cut the amount of flash and ram in half.

The packaging box has the serial number on it so you don't have to open
it.  Just avoid any that start with CDFBxxx (according to the table).

Warning: I saw a post recently that Linksys WRT54G version 5's will not 
support Linux.  (They supposedly switched to vxWorks and changed the 
hardware.)

I couldn't find any confirmation of that, though.  Just Caveat Emptor.
