[lug] Mozilla mail: won't connect to server

Another tool to try is strace.

What distro are you running (re: the thunderbird xserver problem?)  I
remember seeing this once on SuSE and I found a page via google that
spoke to solving the problem (I think it had to be run as root first to
set up a few files).
