Yes, remove the Modes section entirely and you'll probably be fine. (I
don't know why distros are so braindead to put modelines in their
configs anymore. Guess someone must think they know what they're doing.)
Your screenshot shows that the video timing is hosed for your monitor.
The modelines are what control that timing. If you take them out the
server will use the standard VESA timings and that's almost certainly
what you want.
The only other trick to X these days (not counting proprietary drivers)
is to get the HorizSync and VertRefresh to match your monitor. But
those are a standard spec and should be easy to find even if your distro
doesn't get them right.
