[lug] hping for path MTU discovery?

Has anyone used hping (http://www.hping.org) for Path MTU discovery? 
It's one of the touted features, but I can't find an example for how
to use hping for it.  I've been trying the hping2 code, rather than
the alpha hping3 code.  I found a windows tool that's pretty easy to
use called mturoute
(http://www.elifulkerson.com/projects/mturoute.php), but,
unsurprisingly, many of the boxes I want to run it on are linux boxes.
