Reaching back, I remember using mirrorselect:
http://gentoo-wiki.com/Mirrorselect
to find mirrors. Although, I think I pretty much perma-linked DU's
server in make.conf because it seemed to always win the mirrorselect
process. Well, it and one in Indiana...
