It's really hard to find any information on the LTS stuff on the
ubuntu web site... if anyone can find any kind of roadmap or anything
I'd love to hear about it.
I did find on wikipedia tho:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_(Linux_distribution)#Long_Term_Support
"Release 6.06 LTS, codenamed "Dapper Drake", is the first Long Term
Support release of Ubuntu, which Canonical plan to support with
updates for longer than most Ubuntu releases. Package updates are
planned for three years on the desktop and five years on the server,
with paid technical support available from Canonical over the same
period.
Because of the longer support cycle, Canonical have announced that the
ShipIt programme will continue to ship Dapper, rather than switching
to the newer Edgy Eft.[23]
Ubuntu 6.06 LTS initially included GNOME 2.14, Mozilla Firefox
1.5.0.3, OpenOffice.org 2.0.2, Xorg 7.0, GCC 4.0.3, and version 2.6.15
of the Linux kernel at release time. Several packages were upgraded
for the first maintenance release on 10 August 2006. This maintenance
release, version 6.06.1, is the current LTS version of Ubuntu, and is
still distributed alongside more recent non-LTS versions."
So Edgy isn't a LTS release, and it's unclear from what I can find if
the next release will be a LTS release either.
So, there will be likely many less than 10 LTS versions they will need
to support.
