LILO has options to handle this.  For RAID-1 I tell it to use /dev/md0 
as the boot device and install to the MBRs of the drives in the RAID. 
It seems to be able to do the right thing with other setups, or at least 
you can tell it what you want it to do.  But I haven't used it that way.
