Any opinins on VirtualBox?

I just found it, and I like the idea of a GPL replacement for VMWare (and as I
have mentioned on this list, VMWare was a disaster for me).

Especially:

  - is it as fast as VMWare?
  - is it stable?

I know some of you are thinking "try it and see", but the idea of installing
something that I assume will alter my kernel like the VMWare install did
doesn't sound appealing to me unless it is very stable.
