i'm liking what i'm hearing :-).  i thought sata level support was hit or
miss, especially with a generic card.  maybe it's not that big of an issue
any more and more a problem with the raid cards then the vanilla sata.

would you be able to dmesg or lspci to see if you can find any info about
the chipset / driver for that card and post back?

i already purchased a riser card for this system and it's spec'd at PCI-X
133 MHz+PCI-Exp.x8 (Signal:x8 via Riser Cards).  i'm assuming that PCI-X
is backward compatible for lower end cards.

also, what's the difference/benefit/disadvantage of a single-chip
controller since you specified it in your post?
