i feel pretty comfortable with it all at this point.  however, I now
officially elect you as group grub master. :-)

here's one thing for you though:

> grub> find /grub/menu.lst

according to the grub manual, you're supposed to be able to issue
wildcards to these find paths.  well for me, wildcards don't seem to work.
 you have to know and supply the EXACT path of the target to the grub find
command.

i'd be curious to see what behavior you experience.
