Hi,

My nvidia driver suddenly stopped working. I didn't make any system
changes, but today when I booted the machine X wouldn't come up.
Come to think of it, maybe I did use Yast to install whatever patches
were current a few days ago.
I'm running Suse 10.2 on a dual Intel-32.

I tried running sax2 from the command line, but it also
failed. The sax log ends with ...

	(II) Setting vga for screen 0.
	(**) NVIDIA(0): Depth 24, (--) framebuffer bpp 32
	(==) NVIDIA(0): RGB weight 888
	(==) NVIDIA(0): Default visual is TrueColor
	(==) NVIDIA(0): Using gamma correction (1.0, 1.0, 1.0)
	(==) NVIDIA(0): Using HW cursor
	(**) NVIDIA(0): Enabling RENDER acceleration
	(==) NVIDIA(0): Video key set to default value of 0x101fe
	FATAL: Error inserting nvidia (/lib/modules/2.6.18.8-0.5-bigsmp/weak-updates/nvidia.ko): No such device
	(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to load the NVIDIA kernel module!
	(EE) NVIDIA(0):  *** Aborting ***
	(II) UnloadModule: "nvidia"
	(II) UnloadModule: "ramdac"
	(II) UnloadModule: "fb"
	(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

	Fatal server error:
	no screens found

So I used command-line yast to deinstall and reinstall the modules:
  nvidia-gfx-kmp-bigsmp
  x11-video-nvidia

I rebooted, and still sax2 fails. When I try to startx, it loops
spewing out messages - the only way out is power off or ctl-alt-del.
Do you have any suggestions?

Many thanks,

Steve
