If you have line-of-sight, get some nice antennas and use 802.11b.

If you have penetrable space between the devices, consider 900mhz
ethernet repeaters.

If you have impenetrable objects in the way, consider a cell phone

If you are in a mountain valley, good luck, and try a satellite
router.
