64-bit Gentoo Linux with 32-bit Firefox 2.0.0.11 and a 32-bit Java
plugin linked like this:
/usr/lib32/nsbrowser/plugins/libjavaplugin_oji.so -> /opt/emul-linux-x86-java-1.6.0.03/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so

Works great.
