[lug] 64-bit Linux and Java browser plugins

So, running a 64-bit system, 64-bit browsers get installed.

But browsers, 64 bits, and Java applets don't mix so well at
present, as far as I can tell.

The solutions I've seen suggested involve installing 32-bit
versions of the browsers.

Does anyone know what the deal is with this and Sun?  I would
have thought that having Java plugins for 64-bit systems would be
fairly important to Sun, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
