[lug] Flakey Window/Workspace Focus

Since upgrading to Lenny, a few months ago, I've had some bizarre
results with workspace window focus. Was wondering if anyone had
any suggestions to point me in the right direction.
I have 8 workspaces over two monitors. When I alt-F1, to move from
workspace 2 to 1, for instance, it's up in the air whether the window on
top will have focus. If it doesn't then when trying to alt-F2 to get
back to the 2nd workspace causes it to happen in the other monitor
instead - the app in F1 on the wrong monitor has focus. Clicking in the
correct monitor to raise focus sets it on the correct window will regain
it's focus and it works again until it doesn't.
I'm using a Radeon X550 w/ ATI's driver 8.43.7 and KDE (kdebase
4:3.5.8.dfsg.1-7). This didn't happen in Etch and unfortunately I can't
remember what driver I was using prior to installing Lenny on this
machine, but I'm almost positive I upgraded it as well, a couple months
ago. I'm a little hesitant to try it now, if it can be avoided, since
the machine is my $$ source.
I can't seem to find any options in the control panel that would cause
this. The apps in the workspaces include iceweasel, icedove, Zend Neon,
pidgen and openoffice.
Any thoughts/clues/RTFMs would be greatly appreciated.
John
