[lug] Cheap laptop for a neophyte

A computer user at work wants to buy an inexpensive laptop for home use (she 
thinking about edubuntu, since she has small kids, but has barely learned 
enough to know there is such a thing as edubuntu).

She would like something under $600.  She doesn't want a netbook: she wants a 
larger screen and keyboard.

My own hardware is much higher end. Does anyone have suggestions about 
machines I can point her toward? Or away from?
