[lug] Cheap laptop for a neophyte

Dell is running sales on 12" inspirons. They're right on the edge of
netbook since it's a smaller screen and no CD/DVD, but I just ordered
one for $440 plus tax and shipping. An external CD/DVD adds about $80.
It's ubuntu and I don't know how hard it would be to change to
edubuntu. Dell's also running sales on the larger inspirons but I
haven't been tracking those prices since I was looking for the small
form factor.

The main thing to do is to check their website daily and not panic when
the price jumps. They try a different combination of base price +
discounts every few days and the bottom line can shift by as much as
20%. Just be patient and ready to act when the prices drop again.
