[lug] network scanner with sane & ubuntu

I finally set up the GF's HP printer/scanner.  Getting the printer up 
under cups wasn't a problem, but xsane isn't seeing the scanner.  The 
network print server (a d-link 1260) does see that the device is a scanner.

I suspect the problem is that xsane expects that it's either a directly 
connected printer or a remote printer accessed via a saned daemon, but I 
have no idea if that's the case.

Has anyone else seen this?

BTW it's not really an option to hang the printer/scanner off of my 
ubuntu system.  It often isn't up, it would be trading one problem for 
another (letter her see the printer and scanner through samba), etc.
