If replicating on 5 machines is hard I'd say you have the wrong approach.  I recently got 2 Sheeva 
Plugs.  I installed the first one the usual way, to see how it went.  When I get done installing the 
second, installing 3-N will take minutes.  Ditto for upgrades.

It's been years since I noticed a release coming out and had to roll software forward by a large 
leap.  Pick a continuously updated repository (Debian testing/sid, Sidux, etc) and do (small) 
updates every week or two.
