Just a dumb thing that happened to me, so it might be happening to
you: do you have the no-script plugin installed in firefox? I do and
it's a great plugin (if you don't know what I'm talking about, I
recommend that you google it, because it's absolutely a must,
regardless of this conversation!!!)

If you do, you usually enable flash where you want clicking on the
dummy flash box. A few sites, recently, display a "you need to install
(or upgrade) flash" instead of the enablable (is it a word??) box.
What the heck? My flash is installed and up to date!

Well, after a while I realized that it was no-script. Enabling the
website from the bottom-right icon fix the issue.
