the manufacturer, Toshiba Tecra 8000's do an above average job with Linux
installed.  The machines were always 8000's with the Xircom Realport
10/100/56k cards.  Of course RedHat and Mandrake were the only distributions
I ever tried on them.  No real gotchas except the order that RedHat started
the PCMCIA services, this had to be modified so that it started well before
the nic was brought up.  Other than that no real issues.  X seemed happy and
after a little tuning the laptops ran like champs.
