April 8th has gone by and the world has not caved in. (remember Y2K)

Yes, the loss of updates will move along and bite a few people.
Yes, the loss of updates will have people thinking about new hardware.
Yes, the loss of updates will get the hardware vendors selling cheap 
machines to the unwashed masses.

but, if your XP machine did not outright fail a month ago, why would it 
fail on April 10th ?
The proverbial needle in the haystack, that your machine is already in 
the sights of some nefarious entity waiting for M$ to stop updating XP 
to make your machine a BOT is a little far fetched.

The virus scanner people will update their software to wart off some of 
the simpler bugs, and maybe even some of the more virulent strains out 
there.

The heartbleed crisis seems to need more attention then XP.
