Do any of you know anybody at the C.U. BioFrontiers Institute and the
Jennie Smoly Caruthers Biotechnology Building (JSCBB).
I applied for a job there, and would appreciate it if anybody could
put in a word for me to get me past the initial screeners, in this

Description
BioFrontiers at CU Boulder welcomes applications for a Desktop and AV
Support position. This position will support the mission of the
BioFrontiers Institute and the Jennie Smoly Caruthers Biotechnology
Building (JSCBB) in advancing interdisciplinary scientific research
toward tangible goals.
This position will provide primary IT support to BioFrontiers and
JSCBB personnel, handling issues ranging from backup configuration, to
systems installation and deployment. This position will work as a
member of a team responsible for a large and varied computing
infrastructure within the building designed to assist in the primary
research goal of the organization.
This position will be a primarily desktop support role troubleshooting
a variety of PC and Mac hardware and software.
Additional training, expanded responsibility, and management
experience will be available for the right candidate.
Who we are:
At the University of Colorado BioFrontiers Institute, researchers from
the life and physical sciences, computer science, and engineering work
together to uncover new knowledge at the frontiers of science, and to
partner with industry to make their discoveries relevant. The
Institute integrates faculty members from ten academic department s,
facilitating their work across disciplines.
What your key responsibilities will be:
Direct Desktop Support
Provides desktop support on a varied personal computing infrastructure
supporting faculty, staff, and students. Responsibilities will
include: update management, software installation, hardware and
software troubleshooting, new machine deployment, hardware
specification development, LAN access troubleshooting, and email
assistance.
A/V and Event Support
Shares responsibility for A/V maintenance, updates, installation, and
troubleshooting in the JSCB Biotech building with a wide variety of
industry standard classroom and meeting A/V systems. Responsibilities
include: large event support, classroom support, audio/video
conference support, A/V hardware
maintenance/purchasing/updates/troubleshooting, and new portable A/V
system design and creation.
Help design events that will leverage JSCBB spaces which are available
for outside rental.
Desktop Support System Upgrades
Identifies parts of the desktop support offerings that need upgrading
or modification and designing/implementing these changes in
cooperation with BIT management. These tasks may include: backup
systems, update management systems, software deployment systems, and
remote assistance systems.
Desktop support task automation and documentation
Participates in the automation of desktop support tasks to reduce
reliance on staff time in some basic support procedures.
Integrates industry standard systems in the new design to create a
self-service support option for all customers, including: background
research on best practices, creation of a model for the new system,
deployment of a new system, and documentation for customers and
support personnel.
Student Assistant Management
Manages BioFrontiers IT desktop support student assistants, including
staff scheduling, employee reviews, conflict management, and task
prioritization.
New Project Development
Researches new desktop support system creation and design to further
the BioFrontiers mission when an area of need is identified by BIT
management.
Digital Imaging Management
Shares time in the BioFrontiers digital imaging center and provide
large format poster printing services in an on-demand capacity for
JSCBB and campus occupants.
What you should know:
The hours for this position will require flexibility depending on
events that are in the building and various support needs. This may
include working a non-standard schedule including occasional nights,
weekends and early morning hours.

The annual salary range for this positions starts at $50,000 and will
depend upon on relevant background and experience. In addition the

Qualifications
What we require:
Bachelor's Degree. A combination of education and relevant work
experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
At least 2 years’ multi-platform (Mac, PC, Linux) desktop computing
support experience, including all standard business applications.

Ability to educate end-users and fellow support personnel.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work in a team to accomplish many simultaneous and complex
tasks while self-prioritizing workload based on a rapidly changing

What we’d like you to have:
AV systems configuration and management.
Experience with large scale backup system configuration and administration.
Video conferencing systems configuration and management experience.
Team or group leadership experience for Desktop or AV support roles.
Experience configuring update management for diverse OS clients.
Large organization desktop support experience.
Experience streamlining end-user tasks through scripting and
management on the Windows and Mac platforms.
Experience using a ticketing system for support tracking.
Experience managing web technologies.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field.
2 or more years work experience in a related field.
Preferred qualifications may be used to further reduce the pool of
applicants to those who are most highly qualified.
