Linus covered this: No software solution is going to totally solve Meltdown
or Spectre.

My laptop is patched (running an Intel Xeon) and haven't noticed
performance hangs, it did reflect on my stress test, but visibly I haven't
seen it. Its more impacting high stress I/O applications like servers.
