X implements the -name option, so I think all X11 applications would
support that, or maybe it'd be in the window manager. Whether something
you specify upon invocation is honored by a particular application is
another matter, because some, e.g. Firefox and Konsole, like to mess with
that. I think in some cases, a program might have an option to just leave
it alone.

But then, using -name would be easy from the command line. How you'd do
that from your window managers launcher, I don't know. Well, I can think
of how I might do it in Fvwm; YMMV.
