Given my antipathy towards the Android OS, I have never dug into this, but
at Instructables there's a tutorial for using Juice SSH and VNC.

I've wondered about the capabilities of the OTG facility in Android.
Apparently, you can plug in a hub, which opens up the possibility of an
external drive to hold your media collection, and a keyboard and mouse.

Possibly, external powered speakers would be of sufficient quality for your
piano lessons, and occasional other media usage?
Or, with external speakers on the Android, maybe use OwnCloud on a Pi for
a media server streaming over Wifi to your phone at the piano? Again,
external powered speakers at the piano.
I don't know how much you care about audio fidelity, but I have a MusiBaby
bluetooth speaker which I've found adequate for casual listening. It's
battery powered, and about the size of a soda can.
I don't know how large your audio collection is, but I've found the Vinyl
player to be fine for using a decently large collection of audio on my
phone. I've never tried it for video. Vinyl is available on Fdroid, if
you've a mind to avoid the Play store, but I think it's there too.
