I'll add some questions I'd like answered:

Security
 (see that CIRES problem, address any other concerns)

Hardware vendors that offer Linux as an option that are on state contracts
 (necessary, I don't know the answer. Gateway and Dell are, but Linux?)

Known use at CU
 (I know of one or two compute servers on Alphas in Civil,
 additions to get best performance (Compaq math libs, others), CS dept?)
 
ITS support of Linux 
 (they call it a "Unix OS" and say they support it, to what ends? What's the
 difference between this and NT and Novell ("Network OS")) 

Possibility of getting a "site license" subscription to RH, KRUD, others?
