[lug] Modem/Sound Card

I've been trying to get my sound card to work and there appears to be a conflict with IRQ 5.  When I do an the isapnpdump the isapnp.conf file shows 2 cards using IRQ 5 - the sound card and a modem.  Problem is - there isn't a modem in my machine.  How do I let Linux know there isn't a modem and to free up those resources.  I had one a while ago, but when I got DSL I took the modem out.
