As far as I know (cat /proc/interrupts :-), no devices are using
int 2/9 or 5.  My sound card is on irq 7.

I was hoping for some wisdom from this group; dis-assembling my machine
doesn't seem too hopeful either, unless I get some knowledge :-)

no pnp support on this PPro motherboard.

yes, I used setserial to select the irq at boot time (and set some
jumper on the sportster for com3 and irq).  No joy, hangs either
with or without the setserial.

Thanks for any comments.  IMHO, modem and serial port support still
seems to be somewhat rudimentary in linux.  It should be a lot
easier than this to do something just slightly unusual.

ps= And I still have not solved the "reset" or "hung modem" problem.
Why is minicom the only program that will open the port/modem
after a call is made and hung up cleanly?
