I'm not sure if this will help, but, if you haven't already done so, add 
your Linux server to C:\Windows\Hosts and C:\Windows\Lmhosts and your
Windows host to your /etc/hosts and /etc/lmhosts files.  This doesn't 
explain why mapping a drive works from a DOS prompt and not from a batch
file, but it can't hurt to try it.
