Ummm ... so /etc/lilo.conf says the initrd image is /boot/vmnew.img.

But - looking at your boot directory - that points to initrd-2.4.0.img,
which was created on Nov 14.

Perhaps that line should be changed to "initrd=/boot/vmnew", so it
points to your most-recently-created 2.4.0 initrd image?
