Is this a PCI or ISA modem? If ISA, is it plug-n-play or jumper? If PCI,
do you have your bios set to "o/s is NOT pnp aware"? If you have "o/s is
NOT pnp aware", have you used setserial or setpci to set up the
hardware? If this is PCI, what is the content of /proc/pci, as well as
the output of "lspci -v"? What brand (and model also if you know) is the
modem?
