[lug] Install on Compaq 1215US

lspci responds with

00:09.0 Ethernet controller: CONEXANT unknown device 1803 (rev 08)
00:09.1 Communication controller: CONEXANT unknown device 1815 (rev 05)

Starting and stopping the pcmcia services and network results in messages:

modprobe:  Can't locate module eth0

Interestingly, I tried plugging in the Dell repackad 3com fe575ct card I had
in my other laptop (which works fine with RH). lspci sees it:

02:00.0 Ethernet controller: 3Com Corporation 3CCFE575CT Tornado CardBus
(rev 10)

I can't remember what drive this one uses, but I will find out eventually.
On boot, the machine gives the message:

Starting pcmcia: PCI: No IRQ known for interrupt pin A of device 00:0a.0.
Please try using pci=biosirq
.
.
.
PCI: Enabling device 02:00.0 (0000 -> 0003)
PCI: No IRQ known for interrupt pin A of device 02:00.0. Please try using
pci=biosirq.

This follows with messages that irq 0 is unlikely to work.

The pci controller is supported, TI PCI1410, and the connected light on the
3Com card lights, but no traffic comes in or goes out. Presumably this is
because the right module is not loaded, but I don't know for sure. In any
case, those error message concerned me, so I downloaded the latest version
of pcmcia, and tried to install the kernel sources from the redhat cd's.
They install alright, but I have no idea where the kernel source tree lives
so I haven't been able to build a new kernel yet.

Other woes:

I know that the USB controller doesn't play well (VIA Tech. UHCI USB rev
10), so I added the following line to lilo.conf in the global section (above
the different image sections):

append="nosub"

and ran lilo -v, but unless I actually type linux nousb at the LILO prompt,
the machine still tries to load the usb uhci interface and hangs. Any
ideas?

Also, (minor) what happened to the xwindows version of Linuxconf? The
terminal version does not have the same options as the xwindows and I don't
know enough to change some of the switches manually.

Sigh.

This machine is fast (1.0 G Athlon4), and a great price, so I won't return
it, since I figure someone out there will write appropriate drivers, but any
help is appreciated.
