Thanks Doug and rotering. I was able to get a light on the dock and it turns out the green becomes amber with traffic so it's seeing packets. Still haven't been able to ping it from the laptop. Still working on it.

Doug, so how long do your batteries last? I recharged and took it out of the dock, then started upgrading gnome from the standard RH7.1 version and I'm down to 74% in about 20 minutes. I'm wondering if that's the norm or 1) linux soaks up a lot of juice in comparison to wincrap or 2) maybe I need to order a new battery. I'm not too familiar with laptops.
