Hi,

Durons are analogous to Celerons--they have CPU cores that are
nearly identical to the Athlons, just with a smaller cache.
Durons will generally work well in any socket-A Athlon mother-
board. Linux runs quite well on Durons and Athlons so there is
little need to distinguish.

Linux runs great on nearly all the Athlon chipsets, including
the recent dual-processor Athlon boards. Its rather unlikely,
but you may have some minor trouble with certain IDE and sound
chipsets. However, in those cases, you can always get Linux-
compatible PCI IDE or sound add-in card. They're cheap.

I've purchased six Athlon systems (most recently an Athlon XP
on a KT266A-based DDR motherboard--very fast!) in the past
three years and all of them have made good or excellent Linux
platforms. In general, they offer superior performance (for
both integer and floating point) than equivalently priced Intel
CPUs. They're a great deal!

ps - Don't use Red Hat 7.1 if you're going to get a new system.
Use 7.2 which has better support for newer chipsets. I'll
be happy to burn you a copy if that helps...
