BRU looks nice.  But GNU tar is _very_ reliable and Free as in Freedom.

The invocation to use would be something like:

  tar -cvf /dev/st0  /etc/ /var/www /home /var/spool/mail

where you'd substitute "/dev/st0" for your particular device.  After
creating an archive on the tape, run:

  tar -tvf /dev/st0

to get a list of the contents.
