I understand these differences (I like the analogy btw ;)  My problem is 
finding the difference between the 10 base hub and the 100 base both being 
Linksys.  Why the 10 lets me sniff and the 100 does not.  I took out the 5 
port switch all together now.

In my switched network on the HP, my IP is setup as a manager and I'm 
guessing allows me to do sniffing.
