Depends on the version. It's been broken frequently in RedHat. I had some
software that was dependent upon it.

You can get almost all this out of the SNMP configuration installed on
RedHat by default (I did have to correct one typo in the config file,
first).  It has a complete listing of rpms installed and I think it tells
about the hardware, too.

>From what little I know, you'd still have to do a lot of scripting to get
that info into a usable form, but it might be easier than walking around.
