I think the connection is OK, because the Win XP (its presently dual-boot) OS
has no trouble completing the connection.


According to some (online) reading I have been doing, the common advice for "my
Windows modem is not working under Linux" seems to be "get a real modem".

Anyway, thanks for the advice.
