It'll work.  AGP 3.0 says 8x cards and boards must support 4x.

The problems I remember were the 2x -> 4x transition.  That had a
voltage change if I remember right (3.3 to 1.5 ?).  But an 8x in 4x
should work fine.  Now, an 8x Pro50 might not work, but I've never used
a Pro50 card.
