As long as you can read ReiserFS file systems you should be ok. just 
mount the partition in question and read it. I'm pretty sure you can 
just select what fs type you want during the installation if that's the 
way you want to go.

btw, Peter's suggestion about checking the cpu heat issue is worth 
following. some mobos have temp sensing from the bios. nice feature.
