I use a Cisco 678 in bridged mode. My isp is britsys.net and they are
fantastic. I have 2 static IPs, 1500/768 ADSL, no port blocking, no
server restrictions and, other than the phone line, no qwest. I have
never had to reboot the modem and I have never had any internet outage
that I can remember. I have had the service for about 8 months. There
are several other companies, earthwave.net comes to mind that operate in
a similar way so that no part of your dsl service is run by qwest beyond
qwest flipping some switches to set it up. Most of them give static IPs
and allow servers. Also they do not use PPPoE, they are straight static
IPs. I pay $45 a month for everything (plus $20 something for the phone
line). There is a moderatly high latency on the connection, about twice
what I had with cable, that is my only complaint. Also there are
contracts and set up fees. I got the modem for free though. I will
probably switch to earthwave RADSL when I move in July.

The birds are singing, the flowers are budding, and it is time for Miss
Manners to tell young lovers to stop necking in public.

It's not that Miss Manners is immune to romance. Miss Manners has been
known to squeeze a gentleman's arm while being helped over a curb, and,
in her wild youth, even to press a dainty slipper against a foot or two
under the dinner table. Miss Manners also believes that the sight of
people strolling hand in hand or arm in arm or arm in hand dresses up a
city considerably more than the more familiar sight of people shaking
umbrellas at one another. What Miss Manners objects to is the kind of
activity that frightens the horses on the street ...
