[lug] Recording presentations?

I’ve been doing some desktop capture videos and learned a lot about handling the audio end.

The short answer is if you want decent sounding audio, you have to be prepared to spend some money. I tried using a mic without a pre-amp and it was just horrible. I’ve also tried using cheapie PC mics and they were just abysmal. I ended up buying an Audio-Technica AT2020 USB microphone for my stuff. This is a great desktop/studio recording mic but I don’t think it will work for what you’re doing.

It sounds like you’re going to need a decent wireless system. Musician Superstore in Westminster has some pretty knowledgeable people that can help you pick one out. You’ll pay more than buying on-line but you’ll have someone to help you, you won’t have to do a lot of your own research, and you’ll probably end up with something that works the first time.

Subject: [lug] Recording presentations?

I'm looking for ideas on taking recordings of tech talks and/or broadcasting them.

My goals are:

*	good sound quality
*	5 fps or better
*	capture the instructor, the white-board, and the instructor's screen

My intent is to record and/or broadcast BLUG presentations, CLUE presentations, and/or study sessions.

My ideas so far are:

*	A webcam seems sufficient for capturing the instructor, but fails with the whiteboard.
*	recordmydesktop seems good for most screen-capture, but it breaks down if you switch to a TTY
*	Maybe always running a VM is necessary if you need to use and record the TTY.
