I recommend checking my talk (and/or my slides) on this very same

I think git is excellent, if you do need its power. I suspect you
don't and if you don't, I'd strongly recommend avoiding it. Go for
mercurial (hg) or bazaar, rather than subversion, unless you have a
very strong reason for using svn (which could be the way in which you
want to maintain the 50 pieces in a single - not multiple - repository
organized only by subdirectories).

IMHO, YMMV, IANAL, etc etc etc :-)
