I ran badblocks on it. Zero reported.

I ran fsck on it, it's clean.

I've moved it to the other SATA controller, so I'll have to wait a bit,
as the problem seems to repeat only every other day. But I'm doing a big
file transfer onto the drive that's now where the other one was, so maybe
I'll see something right away.

Yes, hard drives are very cheap these days. I'd actually prefer to see
the finger point at the controller, as I'd rather replace the
motherboard. Long story.
