I learned FORTRAN after mastering C. I once wrote a program which had a
subtle bug which I spent lots of time debugging: FORTRAN silently ignored
the longer variable names I used so different (to me) variables were
considered the same.

Somebody "won" a compression competition by doing just that. He was
disqualified and accepted that, but the letter of the rules did not prevent
that option, so he could have appealed.
