The bigger problem is that you already know you're going to be down for
15 minutes if you have to do an fsck on an 18GB set, and if you also
have to do a raid consistency rebuild/check, it's going to at least
double that time. Crashes tend to happen more frequently than actual
hardware failures until you start getting above around 20 mechs (depending
on the system, and where you are in the bathtub curve).
